Stop the cause: There are several causes but narrowing it down depends on whether it is acute and then goes away or whether it persists for days, weeks, or months. Acute: food allergy, ace-inhibitor medication, other medication reactions. Persistent: amyloidosis, cancer, acromegaly, nutritional problems. Usually, you would know if a food caused it because it would swell as soon as it touched the tongue.
