Tonsils are basically large lymph node, and the larger they become the more likely the are to have blind ended tunnels (follicles) which become filled with bacterial plaque which is infected and canbecome hardened and odorous. Infection form areas in the vacinity of the head drain to them. When you get a sore throat they are involved and get more swollen and tender. Finger massage may help!
