Surgery: Ganglions can be very painful. Many treatments are available including; observation, aspiration, surgical excision and crushing it with a bible (hence the old term bible cysts). I recommend surgical excision. It is a fairly easy surgery for the surgeon to perform and for the patient to tolerate. In addition, it has the lowest recurrence rate of having it return later on.

Ganglions are: Fluid filled sacs from a joint or tendon sheath. They are not harmful but can cause local irritation. And at times joint pain. They may be sign of remote injury or arthritis as well but can form in the absence of those with normal structures. They can be osbserved, aspirated and injected or excised depending upon location, severity and "need" for treatment.
