Pain, swelling: Having a ganglion cyst rupture is not necessarily a bad thing. It is typically associated with pain and swelling in the area, but sometimes it will then not come back. A ganglion cyst used to be called a bible lesion, because they used to treat it by taking a bible or other large book and smash it down on the ganglion hoping to rupture it, with hopes it would not come back. Thanks.

Temporary Pain: Ganglions are fluid filled cysts that can occur near a joint. They can rupture with trauma (thus the old treatment of hitting them with a bible) or excessive pressure. If that occurs, the area may swell for a few days, and the area may be a little stiff and sore. Some ice and Ibuprofen should help.
