Yes : Follow the instructions closely for the first few days. Smoking is the biggest cause of dry socket. Too much physical activity along with not applying good initial pressure, swishing and rinsing too early also. Some advocate avoiding carbonated beverages. You should have written instructions you can refer to for questions.

Depends: Why wouldn't you follow the instructions? It is impossible to say whether you will or will not but you certainly increase the chances of developing a dry socket by not following the instructions. Why take the chance ?

Possibly: Your surgeon gives you the post op instructions for a reason. You should follow them. I can promise you that if you do get a dry socket, you will never forget it your entire life.
