Depends: Did you have trauma? Can you breathe? Are you concerned about appearance? These are all factors that weigh in to this. This can be complicated and is a reason why many surgeons will only do one or the other. If all of the above are concerns, you may be able to have the septum and breathing issues addressed by insurance, but the cosmetic portions would then have to be paid for out-of-pocket.

Rhinoplasty: Insurance sometimes pays for correction of a septal deviation if it can be shown that it causes nasal obstruction which cannot be corrected with medications. Rhinoplasty is rarely covered by insuruance, and only when there is a functional (breathing) reason. Many insurance companies will not cover traumatic injuries of the nose if there is no nasal obstruction.

Documentation: Insurance will cover or partially cover septal surgery and rhinoplasty if you/doctor can show that there is a functional deficit such as nasal obstruction, deviated septum (with ct scan), failed medical management with nasal sprays, or documented history of traumatic injury to your nose. Photos are essential to this process. Even with all of this it is still difficult to have everhthing covered.

Medical documents: The office of your surgeon will have submit comprehensive documents to your insurance company. However, insurance will not cover a rhinoplasty that is cosmetic in nature. A septoplasty and/or turbinoplasty may be covered, but as time goes on i've found them more and difficult to get approved.

Bent: If your nose and septum are bent and obstruct your breathing from trauma or development then septorhinoplasty may be covered by insurance. Your surgeon would need to send your insurance company pictures that document the problem and your pertinent medical history. Sometimes the insurance company may still refuse coverage.
