No: Be careful. If the switch is made improperly, you can have withdrawal which might bring on premature delivery. Methadone can be started without this danger.

See Below: It will not have an effect on the fetus. The biggest problem would be neonatal abstinence syndrome. Your newborn will have to be observed for signs i=of withdrawal.

Follow the advice of: Your OB & addiction doctor. Subutex is a class c drug in pregnancy, having known risks that are weighed against its benefits, mainly being off heroin, a class x drug. Withdrawal symptoms & developmental issues in infancy are possibile. I hope you can be open with the nursery doctors, follow through with early intervention services for your baby, continue your recovery & feel supported, not judged.

Start subutex now: With both heroin and subutex, your infant will need to be monitored and may need treatment for withdrawal symptoms. I advise that you get in a drug program now with Subutex, as you will get support that you need as well & avoid risks of infection and overdose that can happen with injecting heroin.

Not where I look: There is no hiding from babies exposures. I don't look at the placenta for drugs. If I evaluate the issue I will find evidence of any drug exposure past 20 weeks. You need to make your OB and addiction team aware of your issues so baby can be properly monitored & complications avoided.
