TMJ: The most effective treatment is a mouth guard that is custom molded by your dentist. An anti-inflammatory medication such as Ibuprofen is also helpful.

Highly: The right type of appliance, properly designed and adjusted very precisely can be very effective. Most appliances lack these features and don't deliver the full diagnostic and therapeutic potential of this non-invasive approach. Carefully done, an anatomical orthosis can al, ist always eliminate he need for invasive and painful surgery.

Often Effective: Often dentists will treat TMJ and jaw joint symptoms as an initial therapy by using a splint. Splint options are widely variable and must be thoughtfully selected. Many TMJ related symptoms, although relieved by a splint in the short-term, have underlying causes which should be diagnosed. Go for the diagnosis, treat it appropriately and you may never have the need to wear a splint again.
