Motion exercises: Strain and sprain are different. A strain is muscular in nature while a sprain is muscle to bone attached irritation. A sprain finger can take some time to recovery. There are hand therapists that your doc can refer if so needed.

Must be patient: Sprains of the hand, especially sprains of the small joints of the fingers, are typically stiff and sore for a number of months-it sometimes takes a year or more for the soreness to go away, and sometimes the swelling can be permanent. Just use it normally and expect slow improvement. If it doesn't improve, return to your doctor or see a hand surgeon.
