They don't : Clift palat or lip is treatable surgically , and it is minimally invasive most of the times. There is a clift palat/ lip team in almost all the major medical schools and hospitals. Ther is also the clift palat association of america.

Parental support: If cl/p children enter adolescence already feel unaccepted by their parents and rejected by their peers, then they will be anious and uncertain with low self esteem and lack of confidence in coping ability. If the teenagers with cl/p who feel secure with their attachments, popular with friends, and confident in their coping skills will be able to deal with adversity and retain their self esteem.
