Immobilization.: The success of bone grafting surgery depends on 3 important criterias. First, the graft must be stable and the avoiding as much movement as possible. Secondly, the area of graft should be void of infection. Thirdly, the graft should be complete closure with primary intention in soft tissue suture. Membrane could be used to prevent epithelial migration into the graft.

The alternatives: As a general rule, bone grafting procedures are highly successful. The most important factor to success is blood supply. Maintaining proper blood supply to an area will determine success, and anything that interferes with this can cause a problem. Your periodontist or oral surgeon can help you determine what the best choices are!
