Usually not: If you wear a motorcycle helmet and hit your head, the helmet is designed to protect by breaking and absorbing the force. So does the skull protect the brain. Usually not a major issue, unless the crack cuts across the middle meningeal artery, which could result in an epidural hemorrhage, or it affects the cribiform plate at top of nose, loss of smell.
