It depends: What are the condition of the remaining teeth and how old is the partial? The current partial was designed for a mouth that has now changed.. It is possible that it can be modified a bit, most usually a new partial is indicated.

See your dentist: The partial denture may be modified to perhaps provide for a better esthetic result and to provide for better retention. A dental implant may be used to replace the tooth that was lost and the implant can be fitted with an attachment that can lock onto the denture.

Explore your options: This would be a good time for your friend to step back and rethink both short term and long term goals and outlook. Rather than limit options to just simple and quick fixes, explore all options available. Have his entire mouth evaluated for cavities, periodontal (gum) health, bone support, etc. Then discuss options for best health, comfort, esthetics and happiness with teeth & smile. Then decide!

A few options: First see a good dentist. You can attached a tooth to the partial denture to replace the missing tooth. Consider a bridge if the adjacent teeth are stable and healthy. The best treatment available to replace missing teeth are dental implants.
