Not difficult: Generally its not difficult to fix or replace a broken back tooth. The question is how expensive. The longer you wait to fix a problem on a back tooth, the more complex the treatment. Typically, when they start to hurt, you will need a root canal and a crown. If it isn't salvagable, you can choose to extract it and replace it with an implant and crown at twice the cost.

Depends: It could be as easy as a simple filling, or it may be as complex as root canal therapy and a crown. Hard to say what your tooth needs without an exam and a radiograph. Make an appointment with a local dentist for a consult.

1 in 3 chance: A broken tooth has 3 chances. The first, easiest and least expensive is a break that stays above the gums and out of the nerve. It may only need a crown. The second, is a break below the gums that may need gum or bone surgery and a crown. The third is a break into the nerve that would require root canal, post and core and crown.

Call your dentist: While broken teeth can range in size and severity from a chipped tooth to a completely knocked out tooth, any broken tooth warrants immediate attention. The treatment for a broken tooth depends on the severity of the break. Call your dentist for assessment and treatment.
