Surgery ideally: Ideally, if it hasn't spread, then surgically removing it is the best option. If it has spread, then we're talking non surgical treatments like chemotherapy. Perhaps some of my oncology colleagues out there can better tell you the current non surgical treatment regimens.

Surgery: Renal cell carcinoma is primarily a surgical disease. Surgery via partial or radical nephrectomy has the best chance of durable eradication of tumor. Other options are cryotherapy or radiofrequency ablation but these have higher recurrence rates. Surveillance is possible in poor-risk patients with smaller tumors. Cancers that have spread require medical treatment (immune or targeted therapy).
