Not necessary: X-ray has its limitation and it could not see everything. Bone scan is usually use to see if the cancer spread to the bone.

Sometimes: If the tumor within the bone is large enough, it can be seen with a plain x-ray. Much more sensitive tests include ct, mri, pet scan, or a bone scan depending on the original type of cancer.
