A member asked:

How does a panoramic x-ray compare to a ct with iodine contrast in detecting jaw bone tumors? i do not want iodine contrast as i have a bad thyroid, and insurance will not cover an mri for me unless i have the ct first. please advise?

A panoramic X-ray is an image of two dimensions, whereas a CT, with or without contrast, is an image of three dimensions. If you don’t want to have contrast with iodine, ask if you can have CT without contrast. CT is a better diagnostic image, than Pan X-ray. Tell your provider of your concern with iodine.
