Total hysterectomy: If you had a total hysterectomy, the surgery removed your uterus and cervix. The surgeon may or may not have left your ovaries intact. You need to ask your surgeon about the procedure, and what you're experiencing. Depression can certainly develop after an operation of this kind, and a psychiatric evaluation with possible treatment may help you.

Well....: A total hysterectomy means that your ovaries were removed. A partial hysterectomy means just the uterus is removed, thus, sparing the ovaries. I would ask the dr who performed the operation to explain exactly what was removed and what remains, so you can best understand your situation. Good luck.

Hysterectomy: Depends on what was taken out. Best one to consult is the ob/gyn who did the surgery.

You betcha: If you had a total hysterectomy - they took your ovaries too. So you are exactly right - they aren't working. They aren't even there! you probably need hormone replacement therapy, and soon!

Possible: Many women will have a lower mood when their estrogen level declines with menopause. A simple blood test can tell if your ovaries are still producing normal amounts of estrogen.
