Focal?: If you have a focal discrete fatty nodule, it is most likely a lipoma, a benign fatty tumor, more common in people with metabolic syndrome. If more broadly based between upper thoracic spine and neck, it is probably larger area of subcutaneous fat. These are accentuated by excess curvature of the thoracic spine and excess reverse curvature of the neck, so postural issues and weight both factors.
