A member asked:

Why are doctors so afraid to prescribe thyroid medication to increase its function?my tsh has doubled over the past year - 63 years old, female.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Normal TSH?: If the TSH is normal and you have a primary thyroid problem, there is no reason to increase thyroid hormone replacement. Excessive thyroid hormone can cause high blood pressure, tremors, rapid heart beat, problems with concetration, increased appettite and osteopeorosis. Making someone hyperthyroid has not shown any benefit. If TSH is elevated, you may need an adjutsment in replacement dose.
