See below: No it is not. There is no indication to use Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) to treat depression. It will not help. And it may cause mood swings. I would seek a second opinion.

Off-label use: When an antidepressant at therapeutic dosage doesn't relieve depressive symptoms, the psychiatrist can either change the antidepressant or try to augment it with another medication. There are several possible choices here -- including low-dose adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine), (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) especially if the patient needs energizing. This is an off-label but generally safe and effective use of adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine). Check BP & pulse.

Resistant Depression: Usually first the dose of an antidepressant is maximized, and if not effective, either augmented with another antidepressant of a different group or another medication such as abilify, (aripiprazole) and if not effective, switching to another antidepressant , and if not effective, consider other modalities which your doc. Can discuss in details.

Resistant depression: Many medications - and psychotherapy - are used if the antidepressant is only partially effective. Buspirone and bupropion in particular are used early. Lithium, certain second generation antipsychotics, thyroid, and additional antidepressants can "jump start" the treatment. Stimulants are utilized especially if tiredness is a side effect/prominent depression symptom or if comorbid adhd.
