A member asked:

Can ibuprofen cause mucosal flattening in the duodenum that would look similar to celiac sprue?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Ibuprofen: Ibuprofen and other non steroidal anti inflammatories(nsaids) may cause inflammatory changes in the gastrointestinal tract. Flattened folds is not attributed to nsaids. Redness(erythema) , ulcerations and erosions(more superficial ulcerations) are more common injuries due to nsaids. A definitive diagnosis of celiac sprue is established by biopsies of the small intestine.
