Giardia lamblia: Giardia lamblia, a single call protozoan (think paramecium) parasite is found in fresh water. It takes up residence in the small intestine causing symptoms mimicking celiac disease. The organism may be detected in a stool specimen. Sometimes endoscopy is necessary for diagnosis. Treatment is curative.
