To control disease: There are times when the gum and bone support around teeth has deteriorated to the point that leaving it as it is is more likely to make the neighboring teeth worse. Removing teeth is the last resort. To lessen this chance of tooth removal, keep your teeth and mouth absolutely, perfectly clean. Perfect care at home can stop or control most gum disease problems.

To preserve the bone: Often, a periodontist is asked to place an implant at the site where a root tip or a fracture teeth would be extracted. By carefully removing the root or the fracture teeth, he or she would be able to preserve as much bone as possible. It is always preferred that the implant site will be prepared, extracted, grafted, and placing implant to be done by one operator.
