Root canal: A root canal procedure is not necessarily always painful. When there is a severe infection it is more difficult for the local anesthetic( novocaine) to work efficiently. If you are told by your dentist that you need a root canal don't delay treatment to avoid this.

Root canal: Normally if you are properly numb in the area you do not feel any pain. Get it done as soon as possible. If you have an infection sometimes antibiotics are given in advance.
