Spina Bifida Occulta: There is genetic basis for the disorder, but most likely interaction of multiple genes as well as environmental factors such as Folic Acid deficiency in the pregnant mother. If mother had 1 child with sbo, there is 3% chance that her second child will have sbo. This risk can be reduced to 1% if mother takes high dose Folic Acid at 4mg. Daily, before & during pregnancy.
