How can spider veins be prevented in a person?

No: Risk factors in development of vein problems including sv: heredity, age, pregnancy , prolonged standing/sitting. Sclerotherapy is a good way to treat them. Go to www.Phlebology.Org and find a phlebologist in your area who can advise you.

No good prevention: The biggest risk factor for spider veins is heredity and you can't change your parents. Other factors are age and trauma can lead to spider veins but you can't plan to not get a bruise or not grow older. Pregnancy is a risk factor but preventing spider veins is not a good reason to avoid pregnancy. Wearing compression stockings may help but there is no solid evidence this works.

You really can't: The main reason why spider veins occur is because of heredity. Unless you can change who you have as grandparents, there is little you can do preventatively. The things mentioned by drs. Isobe and wright can help to reduce any symptoms you might have from your spider veins but without changing your genetics, you won't stop them from appearing in the first place.

In addition : Since most patients are women, you can not change the hormonal constitution of women. So heredity and female hormones prevent any possibility of prevention. I wish everyone that spider veins should be the only so called medical condition in a life time, women would live for ever...
