Not really: Heredity, pregnancy, prolonged sitting/standing, obesity are risk factors for development of venous problems. Ultrasound study of the leg veins checking for incompetence of the axial veins (great/small saphenous vein), and ablating them when one is symptomatic may slow up the development of spider veins. Sclerotherapy is good way to eliminate SV, but they may come back in other areas.

Vein evaluation.: If you have a few spider veins then sclerotherapy would be the treatment of choice. If you have many spider veins then you should consider having a venous evaluation with a venous reflux ultrasound to see if you have underlying reflux (leaking vein valves) which may be the cause of the spiders. Wearing support hose may help and seeing a vein specialist would help to answer any other questions.
