Unlikely: 99% of these defects can be closed in a minimally invasive catheter procedure. The defect is closed with an umbrella device introduced from the groin. The incision is tiny. Discharge on the day after closure.

Not likely: Some asds do spontaneously close, but 14mm is a bit large so it is unlikely. You can close asds in the cath lab or by surgery. The options depend on the specific anatomy of each ASD so please discuss your specific options with your cardiologist.
