A member asked:

I have an asa and asd with an ef of 50-55%. what's the chances of having an embolism and can it he dangerous?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not high: I am not sure what you mean by "asa". Small ASDs can be asymptomatic. Your risk of embolism will depend on the size of your heart and whether there are any clots in it, not necessarily the ASD. ASDs can cause a clot to travel to the brain or other arteries where it might be serious. Your EF is good. Your doctor can discuss closing the ASD which now can be done without major surgery
