A member asked:

With an intra atrial septal aneurysm and an asd what are the chances of an embolism or stroke? what is an embolism?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Increased risk: http://circ.ahajournals.org/content/91/11/2785.full The link above gives good information on risk and diagnosis of Atrial Septal Aneurysm. The big issue is when blood flow across the septum. Clots from the legs are usually stopped in the lungs. With a ASD, the clot will cross over and go up to the brain can cause stroke. An embolism is when a clot travels in the blood and causes a blockage.
