10+ kg: Typically we do the closure once the patient is above 10 kg. In few cases where patients were symptomatic we closed the defects in patients with 5-6kg.

Varies: Restrictions to cath closure will include the length of the septum where the device will sit. The two devices available in the us would require a device around 30mm in diameter. In small children this can sometimes be too large. There are other characteristics of the defect that can be prohibitive. Commonly, we close them in children at 3-5 yrs old. You should speak with your cardiologist.

At least 10 kg: There is no absolute age or weight cut-off, but I am an interventional pediatric cardiologist. I generally wait until the child is at least 10 kg (22 lbs), but would ideally wait longer. Unless urgent, i generally have the children come in at ~4-5 years. The larger size makes the procedure easier and better tolerated by the child. Again, please discuss this with the cardiologist.
