Challenging: Problem with alzheimer's is progression, and lack of cure or fully effective meds. The environment can be secured with emphasis on consistent daily scheduling and repetitive stereotyped activities, so no new events. At night, keep a nite-light on, perhaps a radio softly playing, and do not rearrange the pts room or change color schemes. Reassurance can go a long way.

It depends: Safe placement depends on severity of alzheimer's disease. If the patient may engage in dangerous behaviors, e.g., using appliances incorrectly, wandering, he/she may need a supervised environment in an assisted living or nursing home.
