Very soon: Difficulty sleeping after any type of nasal surgery can be difficult due to the swelling and the nasal packing that may have been placed by your surgeon. Once the packing has been removed, sleep will be much easier. It's a good idea to sleep on several pillows during the first week to aid in reducing the swelling. Be patient, it will be over quickly. Usually in 1-2 weeks: Nasal congestion, esp. At night, is one of the most common complaints after septoplasty. Sleeping with your head elevated on a pillow and having a cool mist humidifier in the room may help. Since in most cases septoplasty is performed for nasal obstruction, remember that you will ultimately breathe better after the nose recovers than you did before the surgery.

Will vary w surgery: The post op recommendations will, vary with the nature of the procedure and your swelling. While you may be able to sleep normally soon after surgery, this will depend on what was performed. If external manipulation of the nasal skeleton was performed, special precautions may be recommended for more than 6 weeks to avoid displacing the delicately aligned structures. Discuss with your surgeon.
