Why is there a discrepancy between my mammogram and sonogram breast reports?

Different techniques: The two tests look at tissue in different ways and provide complimentary information. Your radiologist and surgeon will use this info to determine whether further studies are needed.

What is the: specific discrepancy? Ultrasound uses sound waves to create images, mammo uses xray, so the appearance of breast structures is contingent upon different physical characteristics. Some abnormalities are visible on both, and some only on one or the other. They are complementary tests. Neither is 100% sensitive. So it is possible for one to be abnormal, and the other to look normal.
