Swallowing: Sit-up while eating, eat slowly, have sips of water . Do not lie down immediately after meal. Avoid alcohol. Be mentally alert when eating. Avoid distractions.

Probably not many: If she is 88 that would suggest she has eaten and drunk well thus far! i wouldn't suggest any radical diet changes- she should eat the foods she enjoys & are used to . The greatest health hazard related to this is aspiration, food or drink going down her windpipe, but not talking while eating reduces this risk. Re: drinking precautions, she shouldn't drink and drive :).
