What are the actual chances of getting skin cancer ?

Depends: The most worrisome common skin cancer is melanoma; basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas can be removed as they appear with little danger. A fair-skinned person who has a lot of unprotected sun exposure is begging for melanoma and has perhaps 1 chance in 20 of being affected if the exposure's extreme; a darker person who gets little sun is less at risk.

Many Risk Factors: There are multiple risks for skin cancer including having fair-skin, living in hot areas, having natural blond or red hair, blue or hazel eyes, and having tendency to burn easily and tan minimally or not at all. Chronic or intense sun exposure can increase your risk. Avoid prolonged sun-exposure, use spf30 sunscreen, and wear a hat/covering clothes to protect your skin from excess sun exposure.
