Do dark skinned people have less chances of having skin cancer?

Yes and no: Uv and sun-exposure related melanomas, squamous cell, and basal cell cancers appear to be increased in fair skinned individuals. However, there are certain types of melanoma that happen in non-sun exposed areas including the soles of the feet, nail beds, and mucous membranes. These types of skin cancers can be seen in dark skinned people.

Skin: More deeply pigmented patients are less likely to develop skin cancer compared to those with light skin type. However, skin cancer such as melanoma may be found under the nails , on the palms and soles (acral melanoma ).
