The best!: Walking is the exercise! fish swim, birds fly, land-based mammals walk. Except for last 50 years, we spent most of our time standing/walking. Walking effective: Walking is an effective form of exercise. Regular exercise walking in the older population has been shown to cut mortality in half. The intensity of the walk should be to the point that you're breathing a bit harder but not to the point that you can't carry on a conversation. Shoot for 30-45 minutes five times each week, or thereabouts.
