He needs variety..: A variety of food types and portions/servings are recommended--see the pyramid for example. Since he is growing and playing contact sports, he can burn off calories faster than those who don't, and thus needs to take in more. But in general, we eat too much anyway. Minimize junk foods/sodas. So watch his wt. See doc at least annually. Consult your doc/nutritionist if you need help. . Good luck.
