My 16 years old son has ast level of 35, bilirubin 3.8, phosphatase level of 166. he is athletic, playing baseball, lifting, and football player.

High bilirubin: Alk phos in a growing boy is expected to be several times higher than the upper limit for an adult. His AST is fine also. If the bilirubin's conjugated / direct, tell him you love & are proud of him and if he is experimenting with anabolic steroids, he should stop though he doesn't have to tell you. If it's indirect, ask his physician whether it's Gilbert's, hemolysis, or whatever. Best wishes.

See below: Elevated bilirubin level with normal liver enzymes suggest that he has elevated bilirubin from other than acute liver infection or injury, i.e., hemolytic disease.
