My 16 year old son recently had 2 seizures. his ct scan and mri looked great. we are waiting to get his eeg. doctors say they dont want him playing football until he has his eeg. i am wondering why that is? if his mri was fine what are the dangers?

There are activities where a seizure can put the person at significant risk. Swimming, bicycle riding, are more obvious than football. However, competitive sports place additional stresses on the system that can bring on seizures. When these are controlled with medication sports are less an issue.

If he has experienced 2 verified seizures, he would fulfill the definition of epilepsy and should be taking anti-epileptic medication. A pediatric neurologist should be helping with therapeutic decisions. MRI's do not always display a lesion to explain spells. Would avoid driving, use of power equipment, activity at heights, bathing and swimming alone. Follow advice re. football at this time.
