Many options: Physical therapy with a focus on posture techniques, core and pelvic strengthening & hamstring and hip flexor stretching. Medications, with anti-inflammatories most often used. Tens unit, low back brace, epidural steroid injections, weight loss, massage are also used. Surgery is usually reserved for those with unrelenting arm/leg pain or severe low back/neck pain failing all nonsurgical treatment.

Lifestyle change : Usually, it involves a more active attempt to exercise regularly, weight control and smoking cessation if these are factors. If the back pain is the type that is worse with activity and certain positions and better with rest and changing positions. Sometimes, over the counter medications like ibuprophen can help. You may need an evaluation for a diagnosis and then physical therapy to get going.
