Depends: The timing depends on the specifics of your case. Sometimes the cataract needs to be first but other times the retinal surgery does. In other cases, both surgeries can be performed at the same time.

Depends: Every situation is different. I would recommend talking with your eye care specialist. Typically the diabetic retinopathy would be done first. But in other cases the cataract may need to be taken care of first so the retina can be visualized to treat the diabetic retinopathy.

See a retina special: It depends on the severity of each. Ask your retina specialist which you should have first or if it should be done at the same time.

Depends: Depending on the severity of diabetic retinopathy, your doctor may feel it may be a good idea to remove the cataract first then do the retinal surgery. It is patient and practice specific question. If the lens is relatively clear then sometimes the lens is left in place.
