Usually fast : Sometimes people will have some eye ache for a few days but most of the time patients are fine the day after laser for diabetic retinopathy.

Depends: It depends on what you mean by recovery. The changes in vision from the bright light of the laser will recover within minutes. The mild discomfort you may have following panretinal photocoagualtion will go away within a day or two. If you had laser for swelling of the macula and blurred vision, the vision will very slowly improve for many months, up to years form a single treatment.
