How long should i take antibiotics after a tooth extraction?

Follow directions: Follow the directions of the dentist who prescribed the antibiotic. Even though your tooth has been extracted, infection could still be present in the bone or surrounding tissues. Also, discontinuing a medication early can cause reinfection of the area. Contact your dentist if you have any questions regarding your post-surgical medication.

Perhaps not at all: If you had swelling prior to extraction, your doctor may want you to be on antibiotics 7-10 days. However routine extractions w/out infection or swelling in a healthy patient does not require antibiotics.

Depends: It depends on how bad the infection is. The dentist who is prescribing your antibiotics will determine how long to wait before attempting the extraction.
