Several approaches: First make sure pain is from facet. My vote would be to go to osteopathic physician to get better alignment so facet joint is not irritated. Can add medications, physical therapy. Last resort (for me) would be injection. That can certainly provide relief but does not address underlying causes (postural, post injury, perhaps dietary contributors as in pro-inflammatory foods). Often combo is best.

Many Patients: A facet injection is a minimally invasive procedure that can temporarily relieve back pain caused by inflamed facet joints. A facet injection includes both a long-lasting corticosteroid and an anesthetic numbing agent. The drugs are delivered to the painful facet joint, either inside the joint capsule or in the tissue surrounding the joint capsule.
