Right usually larger: On ultrasound studies, the vast majority of people have a slightly larger right thyroid lobe (half) as compared to the left lobe. This is related to anatomic development. The central dividing line is the trachea (windpipe). If you place your fingers at base of your neck, on each side of trachea, and then swallow--- you may be able to feel both thyroid lobes move up and down.
