Medication, heat: Many patients get benefit from acetominophen and anti-inflammatory medicines (like Ibuprofen and naproxen). If the pain is not controlled with these over the counter meds, consult your md. Moist heating pads, or soaking the area in warm water is also helpful for many.

Exercise, weight ...: First, lifestyle changes like weight control, regular exercise and not smoking. Next, some supports or braces may help as well as local applications of heat and/or ice . If no contraindications, certain classes of medications like non steroidal anti inflammatories can help.
