Endometriosis: Surgery is the gold standard, and reduces the amount/extent of disease. The most effective medical treatment is the drug lupron(r). It is costly with some side effects, but is safe and often as good for pain as surgery. The injectible contraceptive depo-provera gives mixed results. A much older drug, danazol, is mostly no longer used.
